This policy affects admitted students at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The policy provides formative information for education and clinical training sites.
Indiana University School of Medicine requires learners to have reliable transportation across training sites. This policy applies to all medical students enrolled in educational opportunities through Indiana University School of Medicine.
Reason for Policy
IUSM offers educational training throughout the state. Because of the varied locations of individual rotations, training, and educational opportunities, all students of IUSM must have reliable transportation.
Approved by the Curriculum Council Steering Committee 12/13/2016.
Medical students are responsible for understanding all site transportation requirements and making appropriate plans before the beginning of an educational experience. Learners are responsible for all travel-related expenses unless otherwise noted by the training site. Financial aid is available for students to plan travel-related expenses in their budget.
Initial concerns related to transportation requirement should be appealed in writing to the course and/or clerkship director, who should coordinate with the site director. If a student disagrees with the course/clerkship director’s decision and wishes to file a second-level appeal, the student must do so in writing to the senior associate dean for medical student education or his/her designee.
A student’s failure to comply with the policy may affect the overall assessment of the student’s performance.
