This policy applies to all campuses, courses, and clerkships of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM).
The Curriculum Council Steering Committee (CCSC) sets curricular policy for the Indiana University School of Medicine and as policies are endorsed by the Dean, the Council will have oversight responsibility for ensuring implementation.
The Curriculum Council Steering Committee is the faculty body that manages the medical curriculum for the Indiana University School of Medicine through oversight of its design, implementation and management of the School’s curriculum at all campuses. The CCSC sets curricular policy for education and has oversight responsibility for ensuring compliance and comparability. The CCSC reviews data at specified intervals to monitor and evaluate the curriculum as a whole and make informed decisions to enhance, coordinate, and ensure coherence of the educational program.
The CCSC has the authority to manage the IUSM curriculum. This includes establishing policy and determining procedures for the implementation of the medical school curriculum. The Dean and Dean’s representatives should inform the CCSC of policies and circumstances adequately to permit the committee to exercise its authority in a responsible and effective manner. The CCSC shall inform the Dean and/or the Dean’s representatives about the decisions of the committee. The CCSC has direct responsibility for the curriculum of the medical school.
The CCSC is a standing committee of the IU School of Medicine as outlined in the constitution. The Faculty Steering Committee is the overall faculty governing body for the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Reason for Policy
The CCSC seeks to create a professional culture and learning environment that enhances our educational endeavor and fosters excellence through a competency-based curriculum, and so intentionally works with transparency and in collaboration with faculty, staff and student colleagues.
