Graduate Recognition

Event Details

Student Attire: Business professional attire under full graduation regalia
Cap & Gown: Graduating students should order their regalia by April 12 here.
Photography: Grad Images will be onsite to take several photos of each graduate. Guests are not permitted to stand in front of seated guests to take photos. Photo opportunities will be available after the ceremony.
Tickets: Tickets are not required for graduation, but graduates should be considerate of fellow classmates. Additionally, seats cannot be reserved so your entire party should arrive together.

Road to Graduation To-Do List

Confirm Your Information in the Class Composite.

Deadline: March 7

Confirm your information in the 2020 Class Composite by March 7. If you take no action, your photograph and name will be automatically included in the composite.

Take the Graduate Questionnaire (GQ).

Deadline: For individual incentives, the deadline is March 12. Group incentive deadline is March 30. The survey extends until the first week of June.

You should receive reminders from both IU Medical Student Education and the AAMC beginning in February until early June. You can email to request a new link to the survey if you cannot find yours. Send your timestamped GQ completion confirmation from the AAMC to by March 12 to be eligible for incentives. 

Vote for Outstanding Faculty & Staff for Class of 2020 Awards Celebration.

Deadline: March 17

Let your voice be heard as your class honors outstanding faculty, staff, residents, clerkship and more. The Class of 2020 Awards Celebration takes place on Thursday, May 14, at 5:15 p.m.! Students receiving awards will receive notification by May 1. 

Nominate a Family Member to Hood You. (Optional)

Deadline: March 31 

Family members must be physicians to be eligible. Hooders order full academic regalia and will need to sit with the other hooders next to the stage. Names submitted will be checked before approval. 

Ensure your information is correct for the Graduation Program.

Deadline: April 6 

All eligible students will receive an email from MD Student News after Match Day with the form to fill out by April 6. This is also where you will approve release of Match information, photos for graduation and request accommodation or inquire about accessibility needs for guests.

Order Your Cap and Gown

Deadline: April 20

Graduates must wear formal academic attire to participate in graduation. Here is a PDF showing how to step through the process of ordering.

Make sure your name is correct on your diploma.

The Office of the Registrar will send an email in late February, 2020, asking you to verify your diploma name.

Attend Class-Officer Organized Events 

Leading up to graduation, your class of 2020 Class Officers will also provide information about student-organized events. Bookmark and keep up-to-date on gatherings like the Match Day party in the evening.

Prepare for graduation with final tasks. 

Deadline: May 6-12

All graduating students should visit a to-be-determined room (we will send follow-up communication closer to date confirming this location) between Wednesday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 12, between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to do the following:

  1. Return mailbox key.
  2. Pick up the Class of 2020 Composite if you are pictured on the composite.
  3. Pick up Gold Humanism Honor Society cords to wear at graduation if you are a member. 
  4. Pick up your Deluxe Graduation VIP Package or Graduation Parking Pass, if you received an email as one of the first students to complete your GQ survey.
